Summary

Prof Casmir Onwuaso Igbokwe: DVM (1992), M.Sc (2006), PhD (2013). He is a professor of Comparative Veterinary Anatomy and Electron Microscopy in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Prof Igbokwe obtained his academic degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the services of University of Nigeria, Nsukka as an Assistant Lecturer in 2001 after six year of private Veterinary Practice.  He was a GES Post –Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Zoology University of Johannesburg from 2017-2019.  Casmir is also currently an Honorary Visiting Research Associate Professor at the School of Anatomical Sciences, Division of Histology, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa (2018-2021; 2021-2026) and served as the pioneer Director Scholarship and Grants Directorate (University of Nigeria, Nsukka- April –Dec, 2026).  Prof Igbokwe  also served previously as Acting Dean , Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Bunda Campus, Lilongwe, Malawi (May 2023-June, 2024).He teaches all areas of Anatomy with its Clinical applications to undergraduate and post-graduate students (M.Sc and PhD), with special interest in Gross Anatomical, Histological and Ultrastructural (TEM & SEM) developmental changes in vertebrate’s vital organs, especially the ones living in extreme and unusual environments. He has supervised and graduated 2 MSc students and one PhD student recently and has over 50 published research articles in journals such as Anatomia Histologia Embryologia, Scientific Reports (Nature Springer) and Microscopy and Microanalyis (Oxford). He is a regular reviewer for some top Morphological/ Anatomical Journals with Clavirate analytics impact factor.  Prof Igbokwe’s research interests including using advance microscopic techniques and bio-imaging modalities to comprehensively evaluate diverse structural areas such chemosensory systems, mammalian and aquatic animal respiratory structures, endocrine organs development and functional changes by endocrine disruptors. Through his research findings he attempts to answer questions using advance microscopic techniques on: why some organs-systems change forms (structure-function) in diverse man-made, natural land, aquatic, polluted environmental conditions and during pre-natal development. He loves nature and travelling to unusual natural places/countries; als from the flower gardens to bird- watching, and regular jogging.
